In 2009, Stryi started production, making them the first Ukrainian manufacturer of high-grade well-made carving tools.
Stryi is named after the town in which is it located — the picturesque city of Stryi in western Ukraine, near the Carpathian mountains. They are familiar with wood carving which is part of Ukrainian ethnicity.
Stryi cares deeply about its people, products, and most importantly their customers. They value and respect craftsmen who make their products by hand. Stryi tools are made in a small shop by a small team of craftsman, therefore they understand their clients and their needs.
The overall tool length is approximately 5 inches. Most of the tools are made from W1-7 carbon steel, hardened to 60 to 62 Rc. These tools hold their edges very well and are shipped sharp and ready to use.
They are fitted with flat-sided, palm-shaped handles, approximately 1 1/4 inch in diameter. The handles are made from oak and finished with linseed oil.
Stryi is still operating in spite of the war with Russia so we are supporting them by continuing to build our inventory and selling their tools.
We offer a variety of Stryi palm handle gouges that meets many carving needs.
